OUR STORY

MK Equitation is owned and operated by Madison Munro

Madison has loved horses for as long as she can remember - horses are in the blood for her and her mother, Kim.

MK Equitation was named as a partial tribute to Kim (the 'K'), as she is responsible for Madison's great passion. The 'M' stands for Madison, and the definition of Equitation; the art and practice of horsemanship and horse riding.

Madison received her first pony at the age of three, a timor pony who went by the name of Hokey Pokey - a love affair of horses began.

From humble pony club beginnings, Madison found the show ring was the place she wanted to be.

Going from strength to strength in the show ring, Madison was lucky enough to find herself working for Paul Austin (Paul Austin Equitation) in 2016 in Australia. She was able to attend shows such as Sydney Royal and Grand Nationals as a groom for Paul's large show team.

Madison returned home for a portion of the next show season, but quickly made her way back to Australia, this time, working for Ali Berwick Show Horses. Madison was incredibly lucky to not just prep horses at home for Ali and her clients, but was able to compete a small number of horses at competitions.

Whilst working for Ali, Madison competed at the 2017 Show Horse Council Grand Nationals in Sydney. Competing aboard the stunning Dicavalli Royal Gianni, Madison gained Top Ten Rider 17 - 21 years for 2017.

Madison qualified and competed again at SHC Grand Nationals in 2018, this time aboard the gorgeous Leannda Chances Are, where she again received Top Ten Rider 17 - 21 years.

Europe was calling and so Madison landed a job in the international showjumping stable of Will and Olli Fletcher, based in England. Madison experienced her first international events and spent eight weeks on the road as part of the British Nations Cup team (as a groom for Will Fletcher and Persimmon) to Morocco for the Royal Moroccan tour.

Madison has also worked in both harness racing stables as well as gallops racing stables, most notably having worked for Te Akau in 2020 as a stablehand and trackrider.

The yearling sales circuit in Australia is also familiar territory for Madison, who has freelanced at all the major sales across Australia and New Zealand. She also spent a large part of 2020 working for Brodie Becker of Stockwell Thoroughbreds, prepping yearlings for sale, as well as handling weanlings, broodmares and stallions.

Thoroughbreds are the breed of choice for Madison, who has also had a part in the breaking of young racehorses whilst working for Michael Forrester in 2015. It was solidified early on in Madison's career that basic horsemanship and groundwork were fundamental to training horses and growing partnerships.

Madison's history with PEMF dates back to working for Ali Berwick in 2017. Ali often used PEMF Therapy on her show team who greatly benefitted from the effects of electromagnetic therapy. Madison was lucky enough to be given a demonstration of PEMF Complete on herself - and she has never forgotten the experience. The goal was set - one day Madison was going to own her own PEMF Complete machine. And here we are today - Madison is New Zealand's first PEMF Complete Practitioner.
